Economy Sandbox

A little macroeconomy in a box. Dozens of households work, earn, spend and save; firms hire, produce, set prices by supply and demand and go bust when they misjudge; a government taxes and redistributes; a central bank sets the interest rate or simply prints money. You control the policy levers — tax rate, government spending, interest rate, money supply — and the dashboard answers with live charts of GDP, inflation, unemployment and the Gini coefficient of wealth inequality, plus a wealth-distribution histogram that stretches as the rich pull away. Trigger a demand shock or a supply shock and try to steer the economy back without igniting an inflation spiral.

Notes

  • This is an agent-based model: every household and firm follows simple local rules (earn, consume a fraction of wealth, adjust prices toward clearing) and the macro curves emerge — nothing global is scripted.
  • Printing money shows the classic quantity-theory result: more currency chasing the same goods raises prices roughly proportionally once the slack is used up.
  • Wealth inequality grows even with identical agents — multiplicative luck compounds — which is why the Gini coefficient drifts upward unless taxes or transfers push back.
