Video to GIF illustration

Video to GIF

Converts a section of a video into an animated GIF with control over start time, duration, frame rate and output width. Uses a two-pass palette for the best GIF colors, entirely in your browser.

Runs 100% in your browser — your files never leave your device.

Notes

  • The conversion engine (ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, about 25 MB) is downloaded from a CDN on first use, then cached by your browser. H.264, VP8/VP9, MPEG-4 and most common codecs are supported; AV1 is not.
  • GIF stores at most 256 colors per frame and grows quickly: keep clips short (under ~10 seconds), small and at 10 to 15 frames per second for shareable sizes.
  • Everything runs locally in your browser; your files are never uploaded to any server.
