Vector Field Visualizer illustration

Vector Field Visualizer

A vector field attaches an arrow to every point — a wind map for the plane. This visualizer draws the arrows for classic fields (rotation, source, sink, saddle, dipole, shear) and then releases thousands of tracer particles that ride the flow, making the field’s character unmistakable: particles spiral around a curl, stream away from positive divergence, and shear past each other in a gradient-free drift. The live divergence and curl values at the centre connect the picture to the calculus.

Notes

  • Divergence measures net outflow: sources have positive, sinks negative, incompressible flows zero.
  • Curl measures rotation: the rotation field (−y, x) has constant curl 2 and zero divergence.
  • Field lines never cross — at each point the velocity is unique.
