Shift Rota Builder

Builds a weekly shift rota that respects unavailable days and spreads the workload as evenly as possible: every slot is always given to the least-loaded available person, then swaps iron out any remaining imbalance. Nobody is scheduled twice on the same day.

E.g. "Dana: Mon, Tue" means Dana cannot work Monday or Tuesday. Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun.

Notes

  • The rota is built greedily (least-loaded available person first) and then improved by local swaps. That is a heuristic, not a proof of optimality — but for one week it reliably lands within one shift of perfectly even.
  • The tool checks feasibility first: if some day simply has fewer available people than the shifts require, it says so instead of producing a broken rota.
