Hashiwokakero (Bridges) Generator

Creates hashiwokakero (bridges) puzzles: connect the numbered islands with horizontal and vertical bridges so every island has as many bridges as its number. At most two bridges may join the same pair of islands, bridges may not cross, and in the end every island must be reachable from every other. The generator grows a random connected layout and strengthens it until a solver proves the solution unique. Solve on the page by clicking between islands, print, or export PNG/SVG.

Notes

  • Rules: bridges run straight between two islands in the same row or column, never cross another bridge or island, come single or double, and the number on each island is the total count of bridges touching it. All islands must form one connected network.
  • Every puzzle is verified with a backtracking solver to have exactly one solution before it is shown.
  • Difficulty controls the island density and how many double bridges and cycles the layout uses — hard grids have more islands with more ways to look locally plausible.
