Financial Life Simulator

Your financial life as a Monte Carlo simulation. Set your age, income and savings rate, then place life events on the timeline: buying a home with a mortgage, children, a career break, retirement at the age you choose. The simulator runs a thousand randomized market histories — stock/bond returns, inflation, the occasional crash — and draws your net worth as a fan chart: the median path, the lucky 90th percentile and the unlucky 10th, with every life event marked where it bites. The headline numbers answer the questions that matter: odds your money outlives you, net worth at retirement, and the age at which work becomes optional. Drag any slider and the thousand lives rerun instantly.

Notes

  • Market returns are drawn from a random-walk model calibrated by your stock/bond mix — expected return and volatility scale with the equity share, and inflation is simulated separately.
  • The fan chart is the whole point: a single average projection hides sequence-of-returns risk, where a crash early in retirement does far more damage than the same crash later.
  • Spending in retirement follows your chosen withdrawal need adjusted for inflation; the success rate is the share of simulated lives that never hit zero.
  • Taxes, pensions and benefits vary too much by country to model in detail — treat results as a planning sketch, not a projection.
