Brewing ABV & Recipe Calculator
A one-stop calculator for homebrew numbers. Enter gravities from a hydrometer, or Brix from a refractometer (with the wort-alcohol correction applied automatically), and get alcohol by volume from both the quick ×131.25 rule and a more accurate formula, apparent and real attenuation, and the calories per 355 mL. Add a carbonation target and the beer’s temperature to size the corn-sugar priming charge, and paste your hop schedule to get the total bitterness by the Tinseth IBU model, with each addition’s utilization and contribution broken out. Metric batch volumes throughout.

Notes
- ABV: the quick estimate is (OG−FG)×131.25; the alternate formula (76.08·(OG−FG)/(1.775−OG))·(FG/0.794) is more accurate at higher gravities. Real attenuation ≈ 0.8192 × apparent, and calories use the ASBC real-extract method.
- Refractometer FG applies a wort-correction factor and the Terrill cubic, because alcohol bends light differently from sugar — an uncorrected refractometer reads FG far too high.
- Bitterness uses Tinseth utilization = bigness factor × boil-time factor, with bigness = 1.65·0.000125^(OG−1) and boil factor = (1−e^(−0.04·min))/4.15. Source: Glenn Tinseth’s IBU model.
- Priming sugar assumes corn sugar (dextrose) at ~4.0 g/L per volume of CO₂ added, above the residual CO₂ already dissolved at the beer’s temperature.
