Beam Deflection Calculator illustration

Beam Deflection Calculator

Computes the maximum deflection and deflected shape of a beam for the four textbook cases: cantilever or simply supported, with a point load or a uniform load.

Steel 200, aluminium 69, pine ≈ 10, concrete ≈ 30.
For a rectangle: I = b·h³/12. An IPE 160 steel beam is 869 cm⁴.

Notes

  • Cantilever point load: δ = PL³/3EI. Simply supported centre load: δ = PL³/48EI — the same beam deflects 16× less when supported at both ends.
  • Deflection grows with the cube (point) or fourth power (uniform) of span: doubling the span means 8–16× the sag.
