Sheet Goods Cut Optimizer

Lays out rectangular parts on full sheets using guillotine cuts (every cut runs edge to edge, the way a panel saw or track saw works): enter the sheet size, kerf and parts, and get per-sheet placements with coordinates, utilization per sheet and a list of usable offcuts. Parts may be rotated 90° unless grain direction matters.

2440 × 1220 mm is the common 8×4 ft panel.
With visible wood grain, width should stay width; melamine or MDF can rotate freely.
"720 x 560 x 2" means two parts of 720 × 560 mm; "720 x 560" means one.

Notes

  • Parts are placed largest-area first into the free rectangle with the tightest fit (best short side); each placement splits the remainder with a guillotine cut, so every layout is cuttable on a panel saw.
  • True 2D nesting is NP-hard; a guillotine heuristic typically reaches 70–90% utilization on cabinet-style part lists. Add one spare sheet for safety.
  • Coordinates are measured from one corner of the sheet; the kerf is consumed along the top and right edge of each part.
